Introduction

The Southern Criminal Justice System (SCJA) prides itself on providing a welcoming environment for all faculty, practitioners, students, and guests who attend and participate in its annual meetings. As stated in the SCJA Constitution and Bylaws (Article III, Section 7):

No member of the Association shall be allowed to intentionally violate the Constitution, Bylaws, or any of the Association’s Policies, behave in a way that damages the Association’s reputation, disrupt the Association’s normal operations, disparage the Association or any of its members, or take any other action that may have an adverse effect on the Association’s Affair’s (“Member Misconduct”).

Application

This Code of Conduct applies to all SCJA members, participants (e.g., presenters, exhibitors, etc.), and guests of all participants in conference activities. Conference activities include, but are not limited to, presentations, round tables, poster sessions, receptions, conference hotel bar, site visits, and on-and-off-site sponsored social events.

Unacceptable Conduct

Unacceptable conduct at the conference meetings falls under “Member Misconduct” (Article III, Section 7 of the SCJA Constitution and Bylaws). Such misconduct includes, but is not limited to, written, verbal, and physical threats, harassment in any form, intimidation, stalking, offensive language, unwelcome sexual attention, and inappropriate physical contact.

Reporting Procedures

Per the complaint process, those wishing to report any alleged violation(s) of this Code are asked to report to the sitting President of SCJA. Section 7 of the SCJA Constitution Bylaws states, “Board of Directors shall have a right to terminate membership of any member of the Association involved in Member Misconduct. In case of such a membership termination, membership dues shall not be subject to refund.”
